The Town of Somerville will hold all Board of Mayor and Aldermen and Planning Commission meetings in the month of August virtually, rather than in person. These meetings will take place on ZOOM. There will be no physical location for these meetings. Governor Lee’s Executive Order No. 16 allowed us to conduct meetings virtually either by teleconferencing or video until May 18, 2020. IN ONLY TWENTY-EIGHT MONTHS, the UT Martin Somerville Center is completely DEBT FREE. A special thanks to all the donors who contributed to this project including: Methodist Le Bonheur Hospital, the State of Tennessee, the Fayette County Government, the University of Tennessee at Martin, the University of Tennessee Foundation and citizens and businesses from Fayette County who donated toward the construction phase and continue to donate funds toward to the Center.

On October 26th, Adamsville was hit by straight-line winds reported to be over 75 miles per hour, taking out electric lines, gas lines, closing schools and the death of a beloved resident. Many cities and towns across the Tennessee Valley were affected by this past week’s weather and several of our neighbors have received severe damage.

Each year, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) celebrates National Fire Safety Month in October with Oct. 7th-13th being national fire prevention week and Oct. 13th being National Home Fire Drill Day. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2016, there were 88 occupational fatalities as a result of workplace fires or explosions.

The Philip Trauernicht Annual Scholarship was created in memoriam of Philip Trauernicht. A native Tennessean, Philip spent three decades dedicating his career to economic and community development throughout Tennessee. His service and dedication supported the creation of thousands of jobs and millions of dollars of investment across the state’s 95 counties. He worked closely with communities and industry to get much needed resources to rural and distressed areas of Tennessee.
